Dear Nen,
I should have written you before but I have been trying to obtain a draft to send you on your money. My efforts have so far been unsuccessful as under the Defence of the Realm Act money is not allowed to leave this country without a permit. Acting on the advice of the Bankers I have deposited the money in the Building Society on which you will get 4% interest free of Income tax. If you prefer to invest it in War loan you will get 5% less Income tax and of course the full value is not withdrawable until a stated number of
years. If you want the money sent out to you before the restrictions are removed you must obtain a permit through your Consul.
I am glad to say we are all keeping well, the Mater is wonderful for her age. Uncle Watts has been laid up with congestion but is on the mend. Business is keeping up quite well much better than anticipated. I have a garden at Shanklin and we grow all our own vegetables which is a great help.
